Former President Donald Trump has named two Indian Americans as his special assistants, focusing on national security and personnel matters.
Ricky Gill will serve as the Senior Director for South and Central Asian Affairs at the National Security Council (NSC), overseeing crucial matters related to India. Saurabh Sharma will work in the Presidential Personnel Office.
Gill, a New Jersey native and son of Jasbir and Param Gill, previously worked in Trump’s first administration as the Director for Russia and European Energy Security at the NSC and as a Senior Advisor in the State Department. He later led Gill Capital Group and advised on energy issues at TC Energy, which owns the Keystone XL Pipeline. Gill holds a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and a law degree from UC Berkeley. He confirmed his new role via LinkedIn, with Politico reporting the appointment.
Bengaluru-born Sharma co-founded and served as president of American Moment, a conservative organization focused on training young Americans. A Republican activist and former journalist with The Daily Caller, he was also the state chairman of Young Conservatives of Texas. Sharma earned a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Texas. His appointment was reported by Politico and confirmed by American Moment on its website.
