A surprise ‘strong thunderstorm’ forces authorities to evacuate tens of thousands from the Rose Bowl music festival.
A thunderstorm unexpectedly interrupted the Cruel World Music Festival at the Rose Bowl on Saturday night, leading to a sudden evacuation. The National Weather Service closely monitored the storm system as it moved through the areas of Mt. Olive, Pasadena, and Monrovia.
The NWS tweeted, stating that the storm could generate strong gusty winds, heavy downpours, lightning, and small hail.
Regarding the music festival, organizers postponed the event and instructed attendees to evacuate promptly using emergency exits.
The festival tweeted, urging people to leave the festival site without delay as it had been postponed until further notice. The tweet was later deleted.
The festival organizers recently tweeted, urging attendees to leave the concert venue and find safety in their vehicles or other sheltered areas.
Their tweet stated, “In light of the severe weather conditions, we kindly request all festival goers to immediately exit the event site and seek refuge in their vehicles or protected areas outside of the venue. Please stay tuned for further updates.”
The storm struck while Iggy Pop was performing, leaving numerous concertgoers disappointed as they had to miss Siouxsie Sioux’s upcoming performance.
Ivonne Espinoza, an attendee of the concert, expressed her understanding of the situation, saying, “It’s disappointing, but seeing lightning, it makes sense.”
Michelle Gee from Pasadena had eagerly anticipated the concert for months and was understandably disappointed by the turn of events.
Gee mentioned, “I’ve spent months preparing for this, but it’s alright. Fortunately, everything turned out fine for me.”
It remains uncertain whether the remaining portion of the concert will be rescheduled or not.
