The Supreme Court has granted bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a case related to the now-revoked Delhi excise policy, filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The decision was made by Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan, who agreed on granting bail but differed on the legitimacy of his arrest.

Justice Kant maintained that the arrest was legally valid despite Kejriwal’s prolonged detention, while Justice Bhuyan called the arrest unjustified.
Although Kejriwal was earlier granted bail in a related money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), he remained in custody due to the CBI case.
As part of the bail conditions, Kejriwal is prohibited from entering his office, the Delhi Secretariat, or commenting on the case.

Justice Bhuyan emphasized that bail is a fundamental right, stressing that the CBI should not act in a manner perceived as high-handed or biased.
During the proceedings, senior lawyer A.M. Singhvi argued that Kejriwal posed no flight risk, being a constitutional functionary, and that all relevant evidence had already been gathered.
Kejriwal had been detained by the ED in March, followed by his arrest by the CBI in June. The court noted that the trial is unlikely to conclude soon, and keeping Kejriwal in detention without trial was deemed a “travesty of justice.”
