Sukhbir Singh Badal, the president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), extended his congratulations to the ten Sikh Members of Parliament recently elected to the United Kingdom‘s House of Commons.
He urged them to work together to raise awareness about Sikhism and combat hate crimes against the Sikh community.

Highlighting the contributions of Sikhs in the UK since the arrival of the first Sikh settlers in 1911 and the significant migration in the 1950s, Badal emphasized that Sikhs have made notable contributions in various fields, establishing themselves as the fourth largest religious group in the country.
“It is a matter of immense pride for the global Sikh community that ten members have been elected as MPs. My heartfelt congratulations go to Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi, Preet Kaur Gill, Kirith Entwisle, Gurinder Singh Josan, Jas Atwal, Dr. Jeevun Sandher, Warinder Jas, Satvir Kaur, Harpreet Kaur Uppal, and Sonia Kaur Kumar on their impressive victories in the recent UK elections,” he stated.

Badal noted that this mandate provides the Sikh MPs with an opportunity to raise awareness about the community and eradicate hate crimes against its members.
He acknowledged the UK’s initiatives, such as National Sikh Awareness and Heritage Month, but emphasized the need for further global sensitization about Sikhism and its symbols, including the turban.

He suggested achieving this through public dialogues and educational efforts about Sikh principles and beliefs.
