Prime Minister Modi celebrates India’s gas production milestone in 2023-24

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised India’s stride towards energy ‘Atmanirbharta’ (self-reliance) as the nation achieved a record-breaking gas production of 36.43 billion cubic meters in the fiscal year 2023-24.

In a post on X, PM Modi remarked, “Heartiest congratulations to all countrymen on this monumental achievement! Our energy self-reliance is crucial for realizing our vision of a developed India.

This record gas production is a testament to our unwavering commitment in this direction.”

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, also took to X to share the news of this new record in gas production. He noted that the gas output in 2020-21 stood at 28.7 BCM, which surged to 36.43 BCM in 2023-24.

Projections shared by the Union Minister indicate that gas production is expected to reach 45.3 BCM by 2026.

“The numbers speak for themselves. Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi ji, India is progressing with renewed vigor, energy, and determination. This new record in gas production marks another step forward in our journey towards self-reliance,” Puri stated on X.

Earlier, on July 29, Hardeep Singh Puri highlighted that India is unique in that its fuel prices have decreased.

Addressing a detailed response to a starred question in Parliament, Puri explained, “India today boasts some of the lowest fuel prices, and uniquely, we have seen a price drop over the past 2.5-3 years. This is thanks to the bold, ambitious, and visionary decisions made by our Prime Minister.”

The Union Minister further elaborated that the deregulation of petrol and diesel prices, initiated in 2010 and 2014, means that fuel prices are now determined by oil marketing companies, not the government.

Reflecting on the previous administration’s policies, Puri mentioned the issuance of oil bonds worth Rs 1,41,000 crores, which now require payments amounting to Rs 3,20,000 crores. He asserted that while the current government is dedicated to maintaining fair fuel prices, it is bound by the deregulated nature of the sector.
