Fortis Mohali organizes national workshop to educate healthcare professionals on transplant nursing

— The five-day event was organised in collaboration with Multi Organ Harvest Aid Network and PGI Chandigarh —

To spread awareness on the latest advancements in the field of kidney transplant coordination and transplant nursing, Fortis Hospital Mohali organised a five-day national preliminary workshop from 22nd-26th August. The workshop was organized in collaboration with Multi Organ Harvest Aid Network (MOHAN) Foundation under the aegis of National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) and Regional Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (ROTTO) PGI, Chandigarh.

 

Dr Priyadarshi Ranjan – Director, Urology-Robotics and Kidney Transplant Surgery, Fortis Hospital Mohali, and organizing chairman of the event, said, “The workshop had been designed to educate and train healthcare professionals on the various aspects of deceased and living donor transplantation of various organs. It also focused on the legal, medical and surgical aspects of transplantation. The workshop was open to all doctors, nurses, medical social workers, lab staff and other graduate professionals.”

 

The five-day workshop focused on the basic concepts of organ donation and transplantation; corneal donation, skin donation and banking; amendments under the Transplant Act; brain stem death, deceased donation programme; robotic kidney transplant; medication management; basics of heart failure and transplant; alongwith matters pertaining to family counselling and approaching families for organ donation.

Eminent Speakers at the event were Dr Naveen Pandey (Assistant Professor, Hospital Administration, PGI), Dr Pramod Kumar (Professor, Department of Plastic Surgery, PGI) Prof Vipin Kaushal (Medical Superintendent cum Director, ROTTO, North PGI ) Dr Amit Mandal (Director, Pulmonology and Clinical Care, Fortis Mohali),  Dr Arvind Sahni  (Director, Gastroenterology and Liver Transplant) Dr Shivani Juneja (Department of Clinical Pharmacology, Fortis Mohali) among others. Meanwhile, certificates were awarded to all trainees and participants during a valedictory function held at the facility on the concluding day.
