On the occasion of International Noise Awareness Day, an awareness campaign titled “Dhwani The Peace” was launched at DAV Public School, Sector 8, Chandigarh, with enthusiastic participation from over 300 students.
Addressing the gathering, Sushil Dogra, scientist at the Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee, highlighted that while noise pollution is a widely recognized issue, awareness about its solutions remains limited. He encouraged students to take an active role in tackling the problem by reporting disturbances, especially during examination periods, through the emergency helpline number 112. He also appreciated the efforts of Sarvaprem Foundation and Paryog Foundation and expressed hope that consistent awareness drives could help make Chandigarh a noise pollution-free city.
The campaign, initiated by Sarvaprem Foundation and Paryog Foundation, aimed to sensitize young minds about the harmful effects of noise pollution. As part of the program, students and participants took an oath pledging not to contribute to noise pollution.
Adding a health perspective, ENT specialist Dr. Prachi Barak delivered an informative session on the adverse effects of noise pollution on children and suggested preventive measures to safeguard hearing health.
School Principal Mantosh Pal Singh addressed the rising trend of students using headphones for study purposes, warning about its potential risks. He also spoke about the environmental role of Ashoka trees in naturally reducing noise levels.
Welcoming the guests, Dr. Romika Wadhwa shared the vision behind the initiative. Dr. Prem Ojha, founder of Sarvaprem Foundation, announced that similar awareness programs would soon be conducted across schools and colleges in the Chandigarh Tricity to engage more youth.
The event also featured a poster-making competition and a speech contest to spread awareness. Siya and Ruhani won the poster-making competition, while Malvika and Yug secured top positions in the speech contest.
The judging panel included retired Principal Aradhana Ojha, Dr. Ashok Wadhwa, and noted litterateur Seema Gupta. Among the prominent attendees were Nitesh Mahajan, President of Paryog Foundation Chandigarh; Jasjot Singh Almast, President of Fire Awareness and Safety Association; Dr. Kavita Sharma, Project Coordinator of “Dhwani – The Peace”; Sanjay Ojha; Srijan; and other distinguished guests.
