‘Allow us to peacefully march towards Delhi’: Farmer leaders seek PM Modi’s intervention

Farmer leaders are calling for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention, urging the central government to address their concerns or permit them to proceed peacefully to Delhi for protest. Sarwan Singh Pandher, General Secretary of Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Committee, emphasized the shared responsibility between the farmers and the Prime Minister for the nation’s well-being. He stressed the need for the Prime Minister to engage with their demands and end the current impasse, suggesting that allowing peaceful protest in Delhi could alleviate tensions. Pandher also appealed for the Prime Minister’s decision on the MSP guarantee law to ease the situation. Expressing discontent with the government’s handling of the protest using paramilitary forces, he underscored the farmers’ commitment to non-violence and urged the government to refrain from escalating tensions. Another farmer leader, Jagjit Singh Dallewal, criticized the government’s alleged negligence towards farmers and urged for the removal of barricades to facilitate their peaceful march to Delhi. He emphasized the farmers’ readiness to engage in dialogue and their calm demeanor throughout the protest. The march, previously halted, resumed with the farmers reiterating demands for MSP guarantees and loan waivers. Despite several rounds of talks, a resolution has not been reached between the government and the farmer leaders.
