Bilawal Bhutto announces coalition with Nawaz Sharif's party to address Pakistan's crisis

Bilawal Bhutto pledges to lead Pakistan out of its current crisis and announces a coalition with Nawaz Sharif’s party, marking the resolution of the deadlock in forming the Pakistani government post the February 8 elections.

Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, the chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), disclosed this alliance in a press briefing, expressing optimism that Shehbaz Sharif would once again assume the role of Prime Minister.

This breakthrough follows extensive negotiations between Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and Shehbaz Sharif, conducted at the residence of Senator Ishaq Dar. The terms of the alliance were finalized during high-level discussions. In a subsequent joint press conference with Shehbaz Sharif, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari outlined the distribution of roles, stating that Shehbaz Sharif would become Prime Minister and Asif Ali Zardari, Co-chairman of PPP, would take on the presidency. Bilawal stressed the collective responsibility of addressing the nation’s challenges.

Shehbaz Sharif clarified that PPP hadn’t sought any ministerial positions since the beginning of negotiations, emphasizing the importance of reaching a compromise. Following the February 8 polls where no party secured a clear majority, various parties engaged in negotiations to form a government. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had formed an alliance with the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) to secure sufficient numbers, but Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari stated that the SIC lacked the necessary support to lead the next government.
