Vigilance Bureau nabs senior constable for taking Rs 3,000 bribe
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) apprehended Nishan Singh, a senior constable stationed at the police post Green Avenue in Amritsar city, on Tuesday for soliciting and receiving a bribe of Rs 3,000 as part of its ongoing anti-corruption efforts.
According to an official spokesperson of the state VB, the arrest was made following a complaint filed by Rajinder Singh, a resident of New Abadi, Amritsar. Singh alleged that the aforementioned police officer demanded a bribe of Rs 3,000 in exchange for releasing his vehicle related to a theft case.
After conducting a preliminary investigation into the complaint, the VB Amritsar range set up a trap and caught the constable red-handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant, with two official witnesses present. The bribe money was seized from the constable upon his arrest.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been filed against the accused at the VB police station in the Amritsar range. The accused is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow, and further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
