Ferozepur police hold meetings with Village Defence Committees

Ferozepur police conducted meetings with Village Defence Committees as per the directives of the Punjab Director General of Police. The gatherings involved 155 prominent individuals from Khalchian Kadeem, Khalchian Jadid, and Basti Bulande Wali villages within the jurisdiction of Sadar Ferozepur Police Station. The aim was to intensify the fight against drug trafficking, monitor suspicious activities, and prevent drone intrusions from Pakistan, under the leadership of SSP Soumya Mishra.

The event not only focused on raising awareness but also featured a street play highlighting the adverse effects of drugs. Following a suggestion from Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit, similar Village Defence Committees are being established in all border districts of Punjab. Randhir Kumar, SP(I), Sukhwinder Singh, DSP, Naveen Kumar, DSP NDPS-cum-Narcotics, and Jatinder Singh SHO were also in attendance.

The community was educated about the dangers of drug abuse and urged to collaborate with law enforcement to create a drug-free environment. They were assured that their identities would be kept confidential when reporting drug-related activities. Additionally, information about de-addiction centers and other healthcare facilities was provided.

To engage the youth and steer them away from drugs, the idea of organizing sports competitions was proposed. The police plan to develop a program for these competitions soon and encourage youth to participate based on their interests and abilities.
