Lt Col Varoon Parmar, hailing from Panchkula and serving with 166 Infantry Battalion (TA) ( H&H) Assam, has brought immense pride to the nation and his hometown with his outstanding achievements on the international golfing stage.
At the 16th CISM World Military Golf Championships 2025 in Kenya, Lt Col Parmar stood First in the Senior Category and Third in the Open Category, showcasing a rare combination of skill, precision, and soldierly excellence. His performance placed India firmly on the global golfing map and highlighted the spirit of discipline and dedication that defines both a soldier and a sportsman.
Building on that success, Lt Col Parmar as part of Indian Team continued his winning form at the inaugural Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) Mid-Amateur Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia. With an impressive second-round 68 at Gading Raya Golf Club, he secured a place in the top three going into the final round, competing against some of the best mid-amateur players from across Asia.The Officer finished Second in his Category and Fifth overall.
“This is my first time in Indonesia and the weather and course are challenging, but I’m enjoying the experience and giving my best,” said Lt Col Parmar, whose home course is SEPTA (Shivalik Environmental Park and Training Area) Golf Course in Chandigarh.
His achievements are made more special due to the fact that being posted in Assam the Officer neither has the resources or facilities to Prac and prepare for international tournaments.
