In a significant step towards promoting women’s cricket and youth empowerment, MGMK Sports Empowerment Foundation Trust was officially launched at the Chandigarh Press Club with a vision to create equal opportunities for girls from the weaker section of society in cricket and develop the next generation of women cricketers from Punjab.
The Trust is led by Chairperson Manmohan Kaur, a sports professional with over 23 years of experience in physical education and sports development, and President Manpreet Singh Gony, former Indian cricketer. The Trust is further strengthened by its dedicated Trustees Sukhpreet Singh (Businessman), Suresh Kumar Bhuria (Advocate & Tax Consultant) and J.P. Singh (Businessman), who have joined hands with a shared commitment to empowering girls through sports.
The Trust unveiled its flagship initiative, “She Leads Cricket,” a grassroots programme dedicated to identifying, nurturing, and developing talented girls across Punjab.
In its first phase, the Trust will collaborate with schools across Punjab to identify promising young cricketers through structured selection programmes. Selected girls will receive free-of-cost professional cricket coaching, fitness training, expert mentoring, personality development, and opportunities to compete at district, state, and national levels. The initiative aims to ensure that every talented girl receives the guidance and platform she deserves to fulfil her sporting aspirations.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson Manmohan Kaur said, “Every girl deserves the opportunity to dream, play, and succeed. Through ‘She Leads Cricket,’ we are building a pathway where talent, dedication, and hard work—not circumstances—determine success.”
President Manpreet Singh Gony said, “Punjab has always produced exceptional sporting talent. Through this initiative, we aim to build a strong grassroots cricket structure that prepares young girls to represent their schools, districts, states, and ultimately India. With the right coaching, mentorship, and opportunities, we can create the next generation of women cricket champions.”
The Trustees jointly stated, “MGMK Sports Empowerment Foundation Trust is more than an organisation—it is a movement dedicated to empowering girls, promoting fitness, encouraging leadership, and strengthening society through sports. We invite schools, educational institutions, corporates, sports organisations, and the people of Punjab to join hands with us in making ‘She Leads Cricket’ a transformative mission for the future of girls’ cricket.”
