Axis Bank expands Chandigarh, Punjab & Haryana footprint; launches digital 1st banking hub at CGC University

Axis Bank, one of the largest private sector banks in India, continues to strengthen its presence across Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana, one of its most important growth markets, through investments in its branch network, digital capabilities and customer-focused solutions. As part of this strategy, the Bank plans to add 35 branches across the region in FY27 and has inaugurated an Express Banking Lobby at CGC University to expand access to convenient, technology-enabled banking.

Driven by a strong industrial base, a vibrant MSME ecosystem, growing urban centres and increasing digital adoption, Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana continue to play an important role in the Bank’s Northern region growth strategy. Over the years, Axis Bank has built a strong presence across the region, serving customers across retail, business, institutional and rural banking.

As of June 30, 2026, the Bank operates 705 branches across Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana, including 428 branches in Punjab, 252 in Haryana and 25 in Chandigarh. This extensive network has helped build a strong and balanced business across the region. Deposits stood at ₹5,067 crore in Chandigarh, ₹32,122 crore in Punjab and ₹19,126 crore in Haryana, while advances stood at ₹4,207 crore, ₹25,339 crore and ₹21,117 crore, respectively, as of June 30, 2026. Chandigarh’s Credit-Deposit Ratio of 83% reflects balanced credit deployment, while Haryana’s Credit-Deposit Ratio of 110% highlights strong demand for industrial and commercial credit.

Tailored offerings across customer segments continue to support growth in the region. Products seeing strong traction include NRI Banking solutions, FCNR Deposits, the Silver Lining Programme for Senior Citizens, the Arise Women’s Account and the Burgundy Private proposition. Demand remains strong across NRIs, senior citizens, self-employed professionals, MSMEs and affluent customers.

Punjab remains a strategic market, supported by a diversified manufacturing base, export-oriented industries and a strong entrepreneurial ecosystem. Ludhiana remains a hub for knitwear, bicycles, auto components and engineering goods, while Amritsar and Mohali are emerging as important textile and apparel centres. Axis Bank supports these business clusters through customised working capital, trade finance, export finance and cash-flow-based lending solutions.

The Bank is also seeing strong momentum in its affluent banking business across the region. As of June 30, 2026, Axis Bank expanded its Burgundy Private partner strength by 38%, strengthening its presence across five cities, including Chandigarh, Ludhiana and Panipat, while extending its footprint into emerging Tier II markets such as Jalandhar and Srinagar. The Burgundy Private Family base grew by 23%, while Assets Under Management (excluding Demat) increased 35% from ₹1,576 crore to ₹2,130 crore. Deposits also grew 14% year-on-year from ₹1,327 crore to ₹1,515 crore.

Institutional Banking is another area witnessing strong momentum in the region. The Bank serves educational institutions, hospitals, NGOs, trusts and other organisations with solutions that simplify collections, payments and governance. Axis Bank is also supporting the Government of Punjab’s Mukhya Mantri Maava Dhiyan Satkar Yojna, enabling seamless PFMS and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) disbursements and facilitating transparent and timely beneficiary payments for an estimated 90 lakh to 1 crore women.

This institutional footprint extends across the education, social and religious sectors. The Bank supports leading universities such as Chandigarh University, CGC University, Ashoka University, Plaksha University and Lovely Professional University with specialised lending and collection solutions. It has also enabled digital donation and payment ecosystems for institutions including the Golden Temple, Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, Dera Sacha Sauda, Radha Swami Satsang and Mata Chintpurni, enhancing convenience and transparency.

Financial inclusion remains central to Axis Bank’s regional strategy. Through its Bharat Banking network, as of 30th June, 2026, the Bank operates 539 Bharat Banking branches across North 2, including 303 branches in Punjab and 169 branches in Haryana, supported by a network of 1,480 Village Level Entrepreneur Business Correspondents. This extensive network enables the Bank to serve the rural and agri ecosystem, supporting farmers, agri-allied businesses and rural entrepreneurs through agriculture loans, farm mechanisation finance, business and micro-credit solutions, while also driving financial inclusion through key government-backed schemes such as PMJDY, PMJJBY, PMSBY, APY, PMSVANidhi, PMEGP, NRLM and PM Vishwakarma.

Axis Bank is also investing in new service formats that combine convenience, technology and accessibility. As part of this effort, the Bank has launched an Express Banking Lobby at CGC University, one of the largest private universities in the Tricity region with nearly 20,000 students. The facility combines self-service banking with AI-powered assistance, giving customers seamless access to a wide range of banking services.

Designed as a scalable model, it delivers a branch-like experience with a smaller infrastructure footprint. The lobby features an ATM Recycler, a Multi-Functional Kiosk and an AI-powered DigiDesk, enabling customers to deposit and withdraw cash, open accounts digitally, access loan and insurance journeys, complete KYC requirements and track service requests.

The collaboration with CGC University also enables Axis Bank to offer tailored banking solutions to the university community. These include Campus Ahead premium savings accounts for students, education loans, Burgundy Banking benefits for eligible staff and preferential home loan and insurance offerings.

Digital innovation continues to be an important pillar of Axis Bank’s growth strategy. Through open by Axis Bank, the Bank is leveraging AI, cloud and API-led innovation to deliver more seamless and personalised banking experiences.

This focus is reflected in strong digital adoption among customers, with Axis Mobile serving over 16 million monthly active users and 76% of branch service requests now fulfilled digitally.

For businesses and merchants, NEO by Axis Bank offers integrated solutions for payments, collections, invoicing, reconciliation and transaction management, helping improve operational efficiency while accelerating digital adoption.

Reynold D’Souza, Group Head – Branch Banking, North & TASC Business, Axis Bank, said, “The strength of Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana lies in their entrepreneurial spirit, thriving businesses and a rapidly evolving economy. We see this as a region of immense opportunity and are investing with a long-term perspective. Our focus is on building a stronger banking franchise by combining deeper local presence with technology, specialised propositions and partnerships that help individuals, businesses and institutions grow with confidence. The Express Banking Lobby at CGC University is one example of how we are reimagining banking to make it more intuitive, convenient and accessible.”

Beyond banking, Axis Bank continues to contribute to the social and economic development of Punjab and Haryana through focused investments in education, skilling, livelihoods and community development. In Haryana, the Bank has committed over ₹45 crore towards initiatives spanning skill development, higher education and primary education, supporting organisations such as Medha Learning Foundation, Ashoka University and Learning Initiatives for India.

In Punjab, the Bank has committed over ₹100 crore across initiatives focused on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education, teacher training, arts and culture, and humanitarian support through partnerships with institutions such as Plaksha University, Sri Aurobindo Society, Nabha Foundation and Kalgidhar Society. These investments complement the Bank’s broader commitment to supporting inclusive and sustainable development across the region.

With Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana playing an increasingly important role in India’s growth story, Axis Bank remains focused on building a future-ready banking franchise that supports the aspirations of individuals, businesses and institutions while contributing to the region’s long-term development.
