Billy’s family has informed us that he passed away on Wednesday after being removed from life support. His wife and daughter were present with him at the time of his passing.
As previously reported, Billy’s wife Valerie made an announcement on Monday stating that he had spent three weeks in the ICU due to multiple health problems. She mentioned that the doctors had recommended removing Billy from life support on Monday night, but she initially declined.
Billy gained fame in his wrestling and bodybuilding career, showcasing his skills in the American Wrestling Association and later in the World Wrestling Federation.
Billy served as a mentor to prominent wrestlers such as Hulk Hogan, Scott Steiner, Ric Flair, and Jesse Ventura. In 2004, the WWE recognized his contributions by inducting him into their Hall of Fame.
According to a recent report, he underwent emergency surgery due to his critical condition in the ICU, battling infection and organ failure. During this time, a test revealed an infection in his left hip, prompting the doctors to perform a procedure to clean the affected area.
In the latest update shared by Valerie, the wife of the WWE legend, she requested prayers for her husband. She mentioned that the doctors had recommended removing him from life support, but she declined their suggestion.
According to his family, Billy’s recent health problems severely affected his physical well-being. During his battle with congestive heart failure, diabetes, hearing loss, and a serious infection in his ears and skull, he lost 45 pounds. Additionally, his kidneys were failing.
The wrestling world is currently receiving tributes from various sources in honor of Billy’s passing. Ric Flair took to Twitter and expressed his gratitude, stating, “Thank you for your significant influence on my career!”
Billy’s age at the time of his death was 79.
Rest in peace.
