Silk India: Weavers Unite for a Spectacular Wedding & Festival Special Exhibition at Himachal Bhawan, Chandigarh
Clothing, once a mere necessity, now serves as an embodiment of one’s personality. The evolution of the clothing industry has been marked by the development of various fabrics, and among them, silk stands as the crowning jewel. With a rich and storied tradition, silk has always held a prestigious place in India’s textile heritage. Silk India, an initiative by the Gramin Hastkala Vikas Samiti, is forging a connection between consumers and weavers on a grand scale. This spectacular event is open till October 9th, 2023, at Himachal Bhawan, Sector – 28B, Madhya Marg, Chandigarh, from 11 am to 8:30 pm.
The B2C ‘business-to-customer’ Expo, is playing as a host to over 70 esteemed designers and weavers from all corners of India. This edition of Silk India promises to be a captivating celebration of India’s diverse culture and talent. It places a special focus on bridal sarees, perfect for the upcoming wedding and festive seasons, including Karva Chauth.
The “Wedding & Festival Season Special” at Silk India will showcase a stunning array of fabrics, including the finest silks, cotton, sarees, suits, dress materials, fashion jewelry, and more, sourced from various states across India, such as Pochampally, Muga Silk, Paithani, Kosa Silk, Baluchuri, and Tussar. Each piece boasts exclusive weaves, designs, and traditional motifs. Noteworthy are the intricately printed Madhubani sarees from Bihar, as well as Kosa and Tussar silk sarees.
Jayesh Kumar, the organizer of Gramin Haskala Vikas Samiti, remarked that silk and cotton blend drapes are immensely popular among the youth. Assam’s Munga silk, a rare gem, will be showcased at attractive prices. The exhibition also proudly features the timeless Bandhini and Patola saree collections from Gujarat. These sarees carry the rich history of their origins and are sure to captivate.
This exhibition is a heartfelt endeavor to promote the timeless artistry of handloom crafts and provide the tricity’s shoppers with a one-stop destination to immerse themselves in India’s rich weaving traditions.
