PHDCCI Organizes Session on New Labour Codes in India at Chandigarh

PHDCCI organized an insightful and comprehensive session on New Labour Codes in India at PHD House, Chandigarh. The session brought together legal experts, industry representatives, HR professionals, and corporate leaders to deliberate on the significant reforms introduced under the new labour law framework.
Bharti Sood, Senior Regional Director, PHDCCI emphasized that as India advances towards becoming a globally competitive and resilient economy, the governance of work, employment, and industrial relations assumes critical importance. She also highlighted that the introduction of the New Labour Codes marks one of the most significant reforms in India’s labour law framework since Independence.
Adv Lokesh Jain, Co-Chair, Haryana Chapter, PHDCCI noted that the new labour codes seek to rationalize and consolidate existing legislations, enhance ease of compliance, strengthen worker welfare, and foster a balanced and growth-oriented industrial ecosystem. He also underlined that effective implementation requires clarity, awareness, and preparedness among all stakeholders.
CS Rahul Jogi, Convener, Regional NCLT & Corporate Affairs Committee, PHDCCI stated that the objective of the session was to provide practical and actionable insights into the new labour codes, their legal implications, and their impact on employers, HR professionals, and organizations across sectors.

The technical sessions featured eminent experts who shared detailed insights into each of the four labour codes: Adv. Jeetender Gupta, Advocate, Supreme Court of India, deliberated on the Code on Wages, highlighting its intent to rationalize and consolidate wage-related legislations and discussed key provisions relating to minimum wages and timely payment of wages.

Deepak Bhardwaj, Associate Director, Grant Thornton, presented an in-depth analysis of the Industrial Relations Code, focusing on reforms concerning trade unions, standing orders, industrial disputes, and regulations governing strikes and layoffs. Adv. S. K. Sharma, Advocate, Supreme Court of India, outlined the salient features of the Code on Social Security, emphasizing the integration of provisions related to provident fund, gratuity, insurance, and the inclusion of gig and platform workers under the social security net.

Prabhjit Gill, Author & HR Legal Expert addressed the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, underscoring its objective of streamlining occupational safety and welfare legislations. He elaborated on employer obligations, workplace safety standards, working conditions, and the operational implications for establishments across sectors.

The session concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks delivered by Sh. Gurdarshan Aggarwal, Resident Director, PHDCCI, who expressed gratitude to the distinguished speakers and participants for their valuable contributions and active engagement.
The event served as a significant platform for industry stakeholders to gain clarity on the new labour codes and understand their practical implications, thereby reinforcing PHDCCI’s commitment to policy awareness, industry preparedness, and regulatory compliance.
