National Level Bangladeshi footballer successfully treated for Knee injury at Fortis Mohali

Mohammed Shamol Miah, aged 34, a National-Level Bangladeshi Football Player recently underwent a Revision ACL Surgery at Fortis Hospital Mohali. Having suffered injuries during the course of practice, he had undergone a surgery earlier at a hospital in Kolkata, but as his condition failed to improve, he approached Dr Manit Arora, Consultant, Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine at Fortis Mohali and subsequently underwent a Revision ACL Surgery. Mohammed Shamol is a player of the Bangladesh National Football Team and has been playing the sport for the past 15 years. He is a defender and has also been associated with the Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, a multi-sports club based in the Dhanmondi area, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Mohammed Shamol Miah said “During a sports practice session in 2020, I sustained an injury in my left knee and had extreme pain and swelling. This affected my performance and also hampered my daily routine. I visited a hospital in Kolkata and was operated upon for an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) surgery. However, my knee remained unstable as the surgery did not yield the desired results. I came across several cases conducted by Dr Manit Arora on social media platforms and how he had done complex knee surgeries with excellent outcomes. I met him at Fortis Mohali where after subsequent medical examinations, I underwent Revision ACL Surgery on 30th March this year. I’m glad that I met Dr Manit Arora. I’ll be resuming my football practice soon.”

Discussing the case, Dr Manit Arora, said, “Revision ACL is a complex procedure mostly performed when Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) has failed. The ACL is a tissue that connects the thigh bone (Femur) to the shinbone (Tibia) at the knee. The injury is usually caused due to overstretching or tearing of the ACL. A Revision ACL surgery is a complex procedure primarily done in cases of failed ACL. There are many new techniques which require an experienced surgeon. The treatment includes rest and rehabilitation exercises to help a player regain strength and stability. This helps accelerates a player’s return to the respective game.”

Meanwhile, Dr Manit Arora has also treated Bangladeshi state-level football player, Mohamed Shipan, and conducted Primary ACL surgery with light therapy on his left knee on 30th March, 2023. This helps strengthen muscle, bone and reduces inflammation. Light Therapy also makes ACL stronger and reduces chances of surgery again.
