The Times of Oman reported an eyewitness account describing a tense atmosphere in the mosque as gunfire persisted for over an hour, causing panic among approximately 500-600 worshippers present.
The Royal Oman Police expressed sympathy to the families of the deceased and wished a swift recovery to the injured.
Such violence is uncommon in Oman, known for its role as a regional mediator and low crime rates.
