Kareena Kapoor Khan Celebrates 25 Glorious Years in Cinema with Refugee Tribute

Kareena Kapoor Khan, one of Bollywood’s most iconic and beloved stars, is celebrating a major milestone—25 years in the film industry. Marking the 25th release anniversary of her debut film Refugee, Kareena shared a heartfelt post on social media, writing, “25 years and forever to go …” while tagging co-stars and collaborators like Abhishek Bachchan, Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Anupam Kher, and director J.P. Dutta. The post sparked an outpouring of love from fans and industry peers alike, celebrating the journey of the actor who gave us unforgettable characters from Poo to Geet.

Released in 2000, Refugee was a poignant romantic drama set against the tense India-Pakistan border backdrop in the Rann of Kutch. Written and directed by J.P. Dutta, the film not only launched Kareena but also marked the debut of Abhishek Bachchan. Though the film was a semi-hit, it became the fifth highest-grossing movie of the year and remains a landmark for both stars. Inspired by Keki N. Daruwalla’s short story Love Across the Salt Desert, the film’s emotional core and raw performances earned it critical and audience acclaim.

Kareena’s evolution over the last two and a half decades is a masterclass in staying power. From playing the wide-eyed Nazneen in Refugee to redefining glam and grit with films like Jab We Met, Omkara, Chameli, and Tanu Weds Manu Returns, she’s managed to blend mainstream popularity with layered performances. Most recently, she was seen in Crew and Singham Again, proving yet again that her star power remains undimmed.

As Kareena steps into her 26th year in the industry, her fans are celebrating more than just longevity—they’re celebrating consistency, reinvention, and a woman who’s owned every chapter of her journey. Whether it’s rom-coms, thrillers, or family dramas, Kareena Kapoor Khan has proven that she’s here not just for the long run—but for the forever she spoke of.
