Instagram users worldwide are experiencing a widespread outage, with thousands reporting issues in sending and receiving direct messages (DMs) on the platform. The trouble began around 5:14 PM, according to Downdetector, a site that tracks service disruptions based on user-reported issues.
Users have turned to X (formerly Twitter) to express their frustrations, with one posting, “Ignored your DM? No, I didn’t!! Instagram is down!!” Another asked, “Is it me or is everyone else also not able to send DM on Instagram?” Many users report seeing a “failed to deliver” message after attempting to send DMs, suggesting the problem might be more extensive.
Neither Instagram nor its parent company, Meta, has issued an official statement on the cause or timeline for resolution of the issue. Meanwhile, affected users are advised to monitor the Instagram status page and Downdetector for updates. This incident follows other notable outages on Meta’s platforms, with significant disruptions reported just earlier this month across both Facebook and Instagram.
