Chandigarh: Punjab Local Government and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar said that smart cities and urban cleanliness can be truly meaningful only when vehicular pollution is reduced. To reduce the pollution of vehicles, it’s necessary that we have to give up the habit of oil.

Nijjar was talking to reporters after visiting the first three-day Electric Vehicle Expo today, being organized by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He said that Chandigarh the capital of Punjab, has set an example in many respects.

Nijjar said that the Punjab government is considering running e-buses as a pilot project in Mohali, Zirakpur and Kharar areas adjacent to Chandigarh. He said that through this program organized by the Chamber, the message of adoption of electric vehicles would go to entire Punjab. Nijjar said that the Punjab government has implemented its new EV policy today itself. The main objective of which is to create awareness among people about saving the environment.

The policy seeks to establish Punjab as a preferred destination for manufacturing electric vehicles, components and batteries, besides reducing vehicle emissions, creating infrastructure, research and development, employment opportunities, ensuring sustainability. He called upon the industrialists to come forward in the manufacture of electric vehicles and the Punjab government would provide all possible help to them. Earlier, welcoming Nijjar on his arrival here, Karan Gilhotra, co-chai of Punjab Chapter PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that the Punjab government has done commendable work in the state by implementing the EV policy. Gilhotra said that the entrepreneurs are ready to extend all possible cooperation to the Punjab government to set up EVs in Punjab. Such events will also be organized in Punjab. On this occasion, PHDCCI Punjab Chapter Chair R.S. Sachdeva, Assistant Secretary General Naveen Seth and many other dignitaries were present.
