CREST Announces Solar City Chandigarh Ambassadors to Spearhead Solar Power Campaign in the City

 Celebrating ‘Akshay Urja Diwas 2022’, CREST- Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science & Technology Promotion Society along with Eco Club of GGDSD College and Yuvsatta-NGO organized a ‘Solar Power Trainers Training Programme’ for Eco Club teachers of local Schools, Colleges and representatives of resident’s welfare associations, business, industries associations of Chandigarh. Over 500 people participated in the same. Sh. Debendra Dalai, CEO, CREST and Director, Department of Environment, was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr. Abdul Qayum, Additional CEO and Dy. Conservator of Forests presided over the same.

On the occasion, to take the ‘Solar-city Chandigarh Campaign’ to the next level, Sh. Debendra Dalai announced the installation of ‘Twenty Solar City Chandigarh Ambassadors’, consisting of representatives from schools, colleges, business and industrial establishments. They are S. RD Singh, Director, New Public School, Ms. Gurnam Kaur Grewal, Principal, Guru Nanak Public School, Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Sharma, Principal, GGDSD College, Prof. (Dr.) Navjot Kaur, Principal, Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Shri Anil Vohra    Former President & Patron, Chandigarh Beopar Mandal, Shri Subash Narang, Senior Vice President, Chandigarh Beopar Mandal, S. Kamaljit Singh Panchhi        , General Secretary, Chandigarh Beopar Mandal, S. J S Gogia, General Secretary, FOSWAC (Federation of Sector Welfare Associations of Chandigarh), S. Jagdish Singh Sarpal, Executive Member-FOSWAC, Sh. Arun Mahajan, President, Industries Association of Chandigarh-IAOC, Sh. Sidharth Gupta, Vice-President, Industries Association of Chandigarh-IAOC, Sh. Surinder Gupta, President, Chamber of Chandigarh Industries, Sh. Naveen Manglani, Member of Executive Committee, Chamber of Chandigarh Industries, Sh. Ritesh Arora, President, Chandigarh Industrial Youth Association, Sh. Naresh Bansal, President, Chandigarh Furniture Association, Sh. Jatin Batra, General Secretary, Chandigarh Furniture Association, Sh. Avi Bhasin, Chairman, Industrial Shed Welfare Association, Sh. Gernail Singh, President, Industrial Shed Welfare Association, Sh. B. S. Saini, President, Chandigarh Screw Manufacturers Association, Shri R. S. Rathore, General Secretary and Chandigarh Screw Manufacturers Association.

Sh. Debendra Dalai, also announced a prize of rupees one lac to that RWA, Beopar Mandal or Industries association of the city, which will install minimum 1 MW capacity solar plants among its members at the earliest. He further added that the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy had already declared Chandigarh as Solar-city and soon Government of India will be conferring a special award to Chandigarh for achieving among all UT’s, the highest number of installations of solar systems in the city. And work on a ten-year master plan for solar power promotion in the city is already in place to make it a model ‘Solar-city’ at a national level.

In his vote of thanks, Dr. Abdul Qayum shared that now time has come to walk the talk for sustainability thinking and action. And until and unless people or the community as a whole owns a programme, it’ll not succeed. And in any case solar power is going to enter people’s lives widely and soon, becoming the common-use technology through which, everyone identifies the energy revolution. They at CREST are for more and more people’s participation, seeking to capitalize on exceptional momentum such as the awareness of consumers about climate change and the risks of a dependence on fossil fuels that is rapidly increasing globally alongside a desire to take action on an individual level.

In keeping with the Indian ethos of sustainable living in harmony with man and nature alike, Mr. Debendra Dalai also administered a pledge to all the participants  to work for the promotion of solar and renewable energy in Smart-city Chandigarh.

The programme ended with a colourful performance of ‘Malwai Giddha’ by folk artists of ‘Malwa Art & Cultural Society’, Chandigarh.
