Chandigarh has been put on high alert following a suspected grenade blast near a house owned by a non-resident Indian (NRI). Witnesses saw three suspects arriving in an autorickshaw shortly before the explosion, which occurred around 6:15 pm and was heard from over a kilometer away.
A 30-second CCTV video from the area recorded the explosion, with the blast audible at the 14-second mark. The Chandigarh Police and forensic experts from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) are investigating the incident. Chandigarh Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kanwardeep Kaur reported that the blast caused some damage to windows and pots, describing it as a low-intensity pressure blast.
According to the SSP, the complainant observed two individuals in an autorickshaw throwing a “grenade” at the house. The police are working to trace the vehicle involved.
In response to the information that the suspects may have fled towards Mohali, authorities there have been placed on high alert. SSP Mohali has instructed field officers to be vigilant and to inform all checkpoints and patrol units about the situation.
