Ayushmann Khurrana Addresses Rumors of Playing Sourav Ganguly in Biopic

Could it be Ayushmann Khurrana, not Ranbir Kapoor, taking on the role of Sourav Ganguly in the biopic? The actor has responded to the rumors.

It appears that there will be some exciting news regarding the Sourav Ganguly biopic in the near future. Word has it that Ayushmann Khurrana has been cast in the lead role for the film.

Sports biopics have consistently proven to be a successful formula in Indian cinema, with very few failures in this genre. Following Anushka Sharma’s ‘Chakda Xpress,’ the most eagerly anticipated film announcement among cinephiles is undoubtedly the biopic of Sourav Ganguly. Although numerous names have been speculated, the lead actor has yet to be officially confirmed. Nevertheless, there is widespread speculation that Ayushmann Khurrana, not Ranbir Kapoor, might take on the role. During the promotions for ‘Dream Girl 2,’ he provided a significant hint in this regard.

Ayushmann Khurrana is currently enjoying the acclaim for ‘Dream Girl 2.’ While the specifics of his upcoming project remain undisclosed, there is speculation that he is being deliberated for the lead role in the highly anticipated Sourav Ganguly biopic. However, can this be confirmed?

In an exclusive statement to Pinkvilla, the actor remarked, “I’m refraining from commenting at the moment. We will make an official announcement when the time is right.”

Sourav Ganguly, like other sports icons such as Mahendra Singh Dhoni, is slated to have a biographical film made about his life. In a significant development, the filming of this biopic is anticipated to commence later this year. Back in May, two filmmakers and producers, Ankur Garg and Luv Ranjan, visited the former Indian cricket captain at his residence in Kolkata.

Insiders reported, “Two directors and producers, Ankur Garg and Luv Ranjan, had a meeting with Sourav at his residence in Behala last Friday. They engaged in an extensive discussion regarding the film. It’s been mentioned that these two directors have documented various episodes from Sourav Ganguly’s life. The scriptwriting phase has already been completed, and the screenplay comprises numerous untold stories and intriguing incidents. The directors aim to infuse an extra dose of entertainment value into the film based on Sourav’s life, making it more than just a portrayal of the BCCI president. Additionally, a wealth of information has been gathered from his close associates.”

Additionally, it was noted that “Various incidents were documented and recounted by Dada’s spouse, Dona Ganguly.”

According to a close source familiar with Sourav Ganguly, it’s widely known about his exceptional cover drive and leadership qualities. To add intrigue to the story, the biopic aims to shed light on lesser-known aspects of the former Indian captain’s life. In this context, the source drew a parallel with Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s biographical film.

The source stated, “Creating biopics centered around accomplished figures in Indian sports is nothing new. Sourav Ganguly’s biopic is rooted in such an idea. The meeting on Friday indicated that Dada’s biopic is in the works, with filming expected to commence by the end of this year.”

All that remains is the eagerly anticipated official announcement from the film’s team.
